BORN AGAIN By GU GU

Gu Gu is a contemporary artist from Nyaung Shwe, Southern Shan State, known for his emotionally charged and visually arresting works.

The series also explores the notion of the
“sacrificial victim”: anyone navigating systems
they did not choose. Yet every sacrificial victim
is also a survivor, rising beyond constraints
imposed upon them.

55 Red Dot 55 centers on the Red Sun, under which all humanity exists, shaped and sometimes constrained by various systems, political, biological, social, economic, and cosmic. Each painting explores three elements: the Sun, the System, and the Human. At times, the Sun aligns with the System; at others, the
human stands between them, reflecting the shifting dynamics of life.

Techniques vary from tender gestures to forceful marks, mirroring human complexity. The number 55 signifies the intention to create 55 portraits, each capturing universal human experience beneath the same sun.

The portraits are diverse, reflecting different
temperaments, tensions, and emotional states. I
use mixed media, oil, acrylic, crayons, chalk,
origami-like textures, scrap metal, and cans to
build raw, layered, and sometimes unruly
surfaces.

This series celebrates diversity, resilience, and the interplay between individuals and the systems they inhabit.
